Survey Junkie Review: Is It Worth It?

I like to discuss decent side hustles from time to time.
Recently, one of my writing clients introduced me to Survey Junkie.
Have you ever heard about those platforms where you can take surveys and earn money? Ever think that they were a scam? Some of them might be, but I’m here to tell you that Survey Junkie is not a scam, and you certainly can make money. But just how much money you can make is up for debate.
Disclaimer: I am not being paid to write this survey junkie review. This is an honest review of whether Survey Junkie is a good side hustle or not.

Survey Junkie is a website that allows you to take surveys for points. Those points then translate into dollars. For example, 100 points equal one dollar, 200 points equal two dollars, and so on.
The length of each survey varies, as does the amount of money you can make. Surveys that require more time will earn you more points. Before you take a survey, you will be told how long the survey should take and how many points you will receive from it.
Surveys change each day. You can check your dashboard and see today’s surveys, or sign up for emails and have them sent straight to your inbox. I tried both methods for three days and came up with this review.
Is It Worth It?
The short answer is: no, not really. But for some people, it might be. Let me explain.
I spent about one hour each day for three days and gained 209 points. That’s right, just two dollars and nine cents. And since the minimum redemption amount is $5.00, I can’t even move that $2.09 to my bank account. I’m not even halfway to five dollars!
I love to talk about side hustles, and I was curious to see if this was a good one like some blogs tell you. Have you ever seen those blog posts that are titled “5 Best Side Hustles”, then one of those 5 is taking surveys? To tell you the truth, you won’t make good side hustle money taking surveys.
Taking surveys is only worth it if you genuinely enjoy taking surveys. I believe that side hustles should be based on things you enjoy. And side hustles don’t 100% have to be about making money. They can also be about you enjoying the work and hustle that you put in.
For example, I enjoy photography. Not only is it a side hustle of mine, but it was first a hobby and a passion. Sure, I don’t make tons of money from it, and I only sell prints here and there. But I genuinely enjoy photography; I enjoy the process. The side money helps, but I primarily do photography because it’s my passion.
On the same note, if you love to take surveys, then you can get paid a small amount to take them. Don’t chase the money here, but enjoy each question that you answer. Me, I took my surveys in the evenings when I had the time. I laid back, put on some good music, and casually took the surveys. It was a leisurely thing, and maybe I’ll take more in the future.
But, I did have some issues with Survey Junkie which discouraged me from taking more.
Issues With The Surveys
One thing that the website fails to mention is that you may be 10–15 minutes into a survey, then be told that you don’t qualify for it. You will still receive some points (like 3 points), but it feels like a waste of time.
From my understanding, companies post surveys on the website and are looking for certain demographics to take them. You might be asked if you use Android or iPhone. If you don’t choose the right one, you’ll be told that you don’t qualify and need to find a new survey. Oh, and here are 3 cents.
The issue is that there are several “qualifying” questions, and they don’t always show up first. So you don’t know if you will be able to finish a survey until you reach the end or are suddenly kicked out.
Best Practices
Let’s say I haven’t scared you away from taking surveys yet. As mentioned, you should try it if you like surveys.
The first few that I took were fairly easy. All of them are easy, some are just more time-consuming than others. And sometimes, if it says it will take 20 minutes, it might take 25–30, so be prepared.
Some people might view these surveys as fun. In that case, why not spend some free time taking a few surveys? If you are traveling, waiting for a doctor’s appointment, or something similar, you could kill some time with a few surveys. You won’t make much money, but it is technically more profitable than scrolling through social media for fun.
